Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water

WE ARE NOT, repeat NOT REHEARSING

on Wednesday 13th Jan 2010

Time now 10:40 GMT on Wednesday 13 Jan and John Willmott has just made the decision, and a very sensible one, not to rehearse tonight because of the weather and adverse ground conditions.

FYI, the church car park is now a skating rink. I doubt the council car parks will be open. No way you can park, nor would you want to, on the sides of the road.

So its keep those fingers crossed for next week.

Can I recommend those of you who CAN, go to http://www.spotify.com/en/download/windows/ and download Spotify (easy to do) and install it and then you can listen to the music without having to pay for it, and if like me you want to listen to it on your stereo or iPod, then you can pay and download it.

If you have the CD for either or both, then Amy asks will you please play them so you at least know what to expect.

I know we have said it before, but hope to see you next week!

He has won numerous awards for his playing, including: the Humphrey Richardson Taylor Charitable Trust Prize, the Young Musician of the Year title in the IAPS Competition, and the RGS Musician of the Year Competition. Most recently he was the winner of the Woking Musician of the Year Award and will play with the Woking Symphony Orchestra in 2010.

Concerts in 2009 have included a Piano Trio as part of the Leeds International Lunchtime Concert series; Wigmore Hall, leading the Procorda Sextet (playing an early Italian violin loaded by Peter Biddulph) as part of the 40th Anniversary Celebrations; Recital for the Friends of Music (South Africa) and Charity Recitals for Christian Aid and the Woking Hospice Emergency Appeal.

Johanna Branston to take part in World Whistling Championships PDF Print E-mail

johanna

Epworth member, Johanna Branston (pictured here with Alan Titchmarsh), will be otherwise engaged when the Choir performs Handel’s ‘Messiah’ with the Brandenburg Sinfonia in Guildford Cathedral on Saturday 25th April. – She will be puckering up and competing in the 36th IWC World Whistling Championships in Louisburg, North Carolina, USA on that date!

Johanna will be the first English woman to take part in the Championships this century, and is hoping to raise money to support the work of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust (Reg. Charity No. 179049) – a charity close to her heart, as she has two family members with ‘CF’.

"I am particularly sad to be missing this particular concert, as I know it will be a ‘belter’. Although a familiar piece to many, Music Director Neil Ferris is making us feel the ‘Messiah’ in an exciting, energised way, and choir members are working very hard to break old, familiar bad habits!"

Not all is lost, however, as if Johanna get past the first round in Louisburg, she might just be whistling the ‘Hallelujiah’ chorus on the same day!

"Epworth has been extremely generous to me, both in terms of sponsorship for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, and in encouragement for my somewhat unusual fundraising endeavour and, yes, I have had to stand up and whistle in front of them!......"

For concert and ticket information, please contact: 01483 750506 or 01483 440000

For information on how to support Johanna’s World Whistling Attempt, (including videoed proof of her ‘talent’(!), please go to www.justgiving.com/whistlingforcft, or contact the Cystic Fibrosis Trust on www.cftrust.org.uk  (tel: 0208 464 7211)

Woking's Epworth Choir appoint their first Patron PDF Print E-mail
Les Reed OBE
The Choir are delighted to announce that Internationally Acclaimed Composer/Musician, LES REED OBE FCL (London) has accepted the Choir's invitation to become its very first Patron. Since the sad death of the Choir's Founder and Life President, Walter Deakin, late last year, the choir decided that it wished to have a Patron. Who better to invite to fill this role than Les Reed who was born in Woking, a friend of Walter Deakin for over sixty years and has been associated with the Epworth Choir since the early 70's.

On accepting the Choir's invitation, Les Reed wrote: 'I am most honoured to be asked to take on the position as first Patron of the wonderful Epworth Choir, having been associated with the choir since the early 1970's.....Walter and I became very close friends and worked together on concerts and album recordings with the Epworth Choir.....I sincerely hope that my future association with the Choir will help retain the bond we shared. I look forward to my new role as Patron of the Epworth Choir.'
